About our Micro Teaching

We did a micro teaching,"Try to be the only one"last Thursday.I played a role of HRT.

☆the objectives of my pre-reading and in-reading activities☆
【In Pre-reading】
We wanted students to be interested in a new section. So we did the following activities.
(・We and students confirmed the meaning of some new words.)
・We got students to expect the content of the story from the title and new words before students read their textbook.

【In In-reading】
We wanted students to understand the paragraphs deeply. So we did the following activities.
・Students repeated every sentence after ART read.
・We asked the characters in the paragraphs.(About "the boy","the boy's grand mother","the boy's father","the boy's mother".)
・Students tried three T/F questions.

☆the strengths and weaknesses of my mini-lesson☆
【The strengths】
・When students confirmed the meaning of some new words,we picked up the tempo of their response.
・To repeat after ALT was useful for students to practice pronunciations of the paragraph.
・Three T/F questions was easy for students to check their understanding.

【The weaknesses】
・To practice some new words cost more time than we expected.
・To repeat after ALT was also cost more time.
・To expect the content of the story from the title and new words was very difficult.
・To repeat the sentences only one time was difficult for students to understand the meaning.

☆discoveries about teaching☆
・To be careful to share of time.
In a real teaching, students may do some unexpected response to teacher's question. Or it may cost more time to do some activities.
・An importance of Pre-reading activity.
It depends on Pre-reading whether students will be interested in a content and concentrate on a class.

How to be a successful English Teacher at Junior High School

Last class, a special guest, Mr.M came to our class!!
He is a junior high school teacher in Morioka, and teaches English to students.
He talked us about teacher's job at a junior high school.

First, he asked us "What is the teacher's job in a junior high school,do you think?"
I think it is to bring student's character up.
Mr.M said "Correct answer is nothing, but I think it is changing students."
This word impressed me!!

Now, I'll tell you about what I learned from Mr.M.

・Whatever you learned or experienced, it is helpful for teaching.
・Teaching has two style : One is unchangeable. For example, to use a text.Another is fashionable. For example, to welcome ALT and teach together.
・It is only a time when students consent that they really understand.
・If there is a teacher who only spoil students, maybe they make light of him or she.
And so on.

Last summer, I went to a junior high school to teach Home Economics as a teacher trainee.
Then I learned a lot of things.
For example・・・

・You should think over a plan of teaching(shidou-an). If you don't think over, students find that immediately.
Don't miss the chance which you can touch students. It is very important for teacher to communicate with students. For example,I went to the tennis club activities and the match of rookie(sinjinsen).

And so on. We should think and do our best to teach a lot of things to students.

About two approaches for teaching vocabulary

Today we learned about two approaches for teaching vocabulary: the Teach and Learn Approach and the Learning through Input Approach. You can see a PowerPoint presentation of the approaches here. I would like to tell you about the strengths and weaknesses of each approach as well as the approach I would use as a Junior High School English teacher.

☆the Teach and Learn Approach☆
★strengths
・This way will go smoothly. Because students can understand easily what teacher tells them.
・Students will be able to review the words easily when they forget them.
★weaknesses
・This way may be bored with studying. Because This is a stiff and formal way.
・Students may forget the words easily. (I think that it is one thing to understand the meaning, another to memorize the meaning.)

☆the Learning through Input Approach☆
★strengths
・Students will be able to memorize the meaning with joy, because it is like a quiz.
・Students will think and study voluntarily more than the Teach and Learn Approach. Because it is like a quiz and they don't know when teacher calls them.
★weaknesses
・Maybe, some students can not catch up with the pace of the lesson. (Teacher sometimes have to check the understunding of students.)

Lastly as a junior high school English teacher I would favor a hybrid. Both methods have different strengths. And students or classes also different. (For example silentry, noisy, restless and so on.) So I think that teacher should change these methods to the state of students.

Review of the communicative activeities

Good evening!!

Today, I am going to review two of the "typical Japanese junior high school"communicative activities presented in ETM 3. The activities I am going to review are Matching game and Using movement. You can view them here.

☆Matching game☆
In last class, I did this activity. Then, I thought that it takes a bit of time for junior high school students to decide their plans. And the patterns of their plans are too much, so that it 'll take more time for them to find friends who have the same plan.

So, I have an idea. Some kinds of cards are necessary for this game.
Beforehand, teacher has to prepare for cards. these cards are painted some situation's pictures.
Students use these cards, and find friends who have the same card.

This way, teacher can balance the number of cards. In other wards, the rate of students keeps balance. So, I think that they can find friends easily.

☆Using movement☆
In last class, I did this activity too. This activity is interesting for me. And I think that it is wasteful for only pair.

So, I think that we can apply pair work to line work. it is what we call Message game with gesture.

About anything that is important for me

Good evening everyone★.。.:*・゚

Why do I write this contribution so late at night?
Because I had a part-time job at COOP TAKAMATSU. Today, I came home at 1:20!(´;ω;`)Uhhhh...
My job is hard but worth doing. So I'll continue to do this work untill I graduate from university.(9 ̄^ ̄)9

Well, I'll write today's task.
It is to write about anything that is important for me.

I think that love is important for me. Fortunately, I am surrounded with a lot of love.゚+。v(。・ω・。)v゚+。 For example, my family's love, my friend's love, and so on. Now I'll write about my family's love.

This G.W. , I must do my part-time job, so that I was in Morioka. I felt very lonly when I did nothing in my room.
But! The day before yesterday morning, I took joyful call. It was that my family were heading Morioka from Hachinohe to meet to me!! I was very surprised and happy.ヾ(*´∀`*)ノ
We had a nice time ; Had a lunch, went shopping, had a dinner together. Of course we talked!talked!!talked!!!

When my family left my room, my mother said to me.
" We are happy because you look livery! Father and I always worry about you. Call us whenever you are depressed. We will come here right away!!"
That made me cheerful.(p*`・ω・)q I felt big love of my family. And I thought that I must take care of my family more than before.

I think that love makes everyone happy and cheerful. So I want to love a lot of people(my family, my friends, COOP's customers, and all around me.)

My stories of studying English in secondary school

Good evening☆Today's contribution is my homework.

【1】Your most enjoyable language learning experience at school and an explanation of why
I think it was a class which sang and listen foreign country's songs.
Because many foreign songs imply the country's sight.Honestly,I am weak in singing. But foreign songs stirred up my interest.

【2】Your least enjoyable language learning activity at school and an explanation of why
I think it was a high school's class.
Because it was a class to prepare for entrance examination for university. It wasn't voluntary study,I think.

【3】Your most valuable language learning activity at school and an explanation of why
I think it was every class with ALT in junior high school.
Because it was a golden opportunity to listen to real English.I didn't speak English fluently,so I yearned for ALT and teacher.

【4】Your least valuable language learning activity at school and an explanation of why
The same as answer to 【2】,I think.
Surely, it is important to study English 4 skills. But I think it doesn't be forced by anyone.

【5】Overall, how would you rate your experience as an English learner?
About 70%.The reason for this rate is next.
I descrived negative about 【2】 and 【4】.But it was also the fact that I learned some skills.

【6】The influence you think your language learning experience will have on your teaching
Through my experience,I think studying is voluntary and not forced. And That is common thinking to every subject.
So I try to make classes bring out the voluntary and positive attitude in students.

Would you like to tell me your opinion??
